Dendrobium crumenatum, also known as the pigeon orchid, is a naturalized species in the Seychelles where I observed it on December-January 2019. This species is originally found from India to most of South-East Asia and New Guinea. Here in the Seychelles, it can be locally fairly common and I noticed it on a handful of occasions during my various hikes on Mahé island where it is found growing in exposed habitats either on coastal scrubs or in lowland rainforest. Most of the plants I saw were growing on rocks although I did find some growing as epiphytes
This 40 cm tall orchid produces erect stems with yellow pseudobulbs and narrowly ovate and leathery leaves. The flowers are small, delicate white with a yellow tinted labellum and apparently look like a white bird in flight when seen from the side, hence the vernacular name. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a single plant in bloom, only a single specimen with wilting flowers (last photograph).
