I first became infatuated with the genius Dendrochilum after my trips in Borneo. I especially saw many specimens on Mount Trus Madi on my 2016 trip. Soon after, I looked after some Dendrochilum to grow in the specialized nurseries and I eventually purchased a specimen of Dendrochilum magnum ('the large Dendrochilum') a spectacular species that originates from the Philippines at 1600 to 2000 masl.
I have never kept this orchid genus before and I wondered how if would fare in my conservatory. I decided to treat it like the other highland orchids I am growing and despite rather cold temperatures last winter, my plant did well. I repotted it in spring in pureOrchiata in spring hoping for the best.
A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure to notice eight growing points around the initial crown. They turned out to be inflorescences! I have to say I am quite thrilled about this and not a day passes that I'm checking the plant and its progress. I hope I can show you the full plant in flowers soon. ;-)
