While I'm checking my Haute-Savoie pictures, here is a short selection of orchids I observed at the Col des Aravis (about 1500 m), a well know Alp pass. You will recognize some that I have already showcased here in the past. All the orchids below were growing in a spot of about 300 m2.
The emblematic Gymnadenia rhellicani.
This is a fairly common orchid here in the French Alps.
Listeria ovata.
It was funny to observe this species for I didn't expect it at all. I saw it in flowers almost two months ago in the Northern lowlands. It didn't come at all to my mind that I could find it still in bloom in higher elevations at this time of the year.
And the frustrating Traunsteinera globosa.
It was the first time I saw the Round Headed Orchid in the wild. It is one taxon that I was eager to observe but, alas, all the plants I saw during my vacations were withering. Next time, maybe. :-/
